Smooth Black

What type of stone or mineral is red with black veins, flat and smooth?

We went sluicing for gems for the first time today, and arrived home to find some stones of a guy I've never seen before. I can not find photos of some something similar online, and wonder what they might be. They are all pretty long, flat, deep red brick-like dark and good-ish. The type of stone, they are more like me in terms of everything but the color would probably be turquoise. It was found in the foothills of North Carolina, in Hiddenite, Alexander County. Any ideas on what they might be?

Rocks and Minerals are classified on much more than their appearance. You should further testing to find out more about its composition. However, given the history of where you got it and from what I understand Well, you say about her appearance, I would venture to say that it can be a rock of iron formation. (BIF) are other possiblities Jasper or ordinary sandstone
