Rare and deadly disease with no cure?

Ok, for school I need some sort of disease that is very rare, and has no cure. this disease can't be specific to any area (i e Ebola is specific to Africa). I'd like one with no deterioration of any senses, but if that is not possible it's no big deal, it just can't end in mental retardation.

I know this is a tough question and i'd like to not have to use cancer!

Tricky.

One you could use is Progeria. Its commonly known as the disease that causes children to age rapidly, caused by a genetic defect. There is no cure and victims do not live long past 10.

Also, Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease (Mad Cow disease). It is always quick acting and fatal.

Also, any autoimmune disease (Lupus, MS) where the immune system attacks the body's organs.
