Why do we brand each other?

Throughout the last few decades there has been so many brands placed upon people...Emo/Chav Mod/Rocker Punk/New-Romantic plus many more (which I'd love you to list if you think of any)

Why do you think we do this? why is there such a stigma against people. Is it a modern day tribe mentality?

Human nature from the beginning of human history. We brand people with the thought "are they for me or against me" Anyone different we are suspicious of or feared.A person that believes it is self mutilation to pierce or tattoo their body would be uncomfortable with a person that had rings in their eyelids or tattoos on them. People that felt part of a group on in style with their generation would wonder what the problem is. People tend to be in groups they feel safe in or can relate to.Some of the nicest kids I met have tattoos and rings in their noses.In my generation it was racy to have pierce ears and skirts above your knees. In my grandmothers generation,above your ankles,lol.I have learned it is better to look on the inside of people.We all choose different packages.All have something to offer as human beings.
