what does the hymn "on eagles wings" exactly mean?
i got a tattoo of an eagle and i want to add a little more to it. im thinking about putting the bible verse of this underneath the eagle, but i want to know what exactly this hymn means. i have a general idea but any details of it would be appreciated. thanks in advance.
The first answer is pointing in the right direction, but the ORIGINAL reference, on which passages like Isaiah 40 are based in Exodus 19:4, describing the Exodus from Egypt --
"You yourselves have seen what I did to Egypt, and how I carried you ON EAGLES' WINGS and brought you to myself!"
(Isaiah 40 is echoing some of the language of the Exodus, such as that of God's making a way in the desert and leading the people through, to describe the future deliverance of God's people [first from exile in Babylon] as a sort of "new Exodus".)
