Where does the story of the cross fire?

I read a story where General Constantine saw a cross burning and said his soldiers to paint on their shields. Is this what the Bible or something?

In hoc signo vinces is the Latin translation of transparency of the expression Greek "εν τούτω νίκα," meaning "in this sign you will conquer." According to legend, Constantine I took This Greek phrase "εν τούτω νίκα" as a motto after his vision of a chi rho on the sky just before Milvian Bridge battle against Maxentius in 312 years.
